We look forward for a more progressive 7th year of this journal as we step into 2018. This issue has a judicious mix of articles spanning medicine, medical education and philosophy.

Male infertility has gained focus in the last few decades and in the pursuit of treating the male, more in depth investigations have emerged into the semen analysis and sperm function. Though some authors described that sperm morphology is also a good indicator for male fertility, numerous publications have highlighted its analytical weakness with wide inter and intra observer variations.

Childhood blindness is one of the priorities in Vision 2020: the right to sight. Amblyopia is one of the causes of avoidable childhood blindness and is caused by opacities of the ocular media, occlusion, strabismus, anisometropia, and uncorrected high refractive errors.Along with appropriate intervention the visual impairment as a result of it can be reduced.

Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is the most prevalent primary immunodeficiency disease. It is defined as hypogammaglobulinemia with normal B cell phenotype and recurrent episodes of infection. CVID can mimic Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP) on endoscopy. Here we are reporting rare case of Immunodeficiency diagnosed during Upper Gastro Intestinal endoscopy.

Antonio Caetano de Abreu Freire Egas Moniz, known popularly as Egas Moniz, was born on 19th November, 1874 in Avanca, Portugal. He had his early medical education in University of Coimbra, Portugal. Later, he had his Neurology and Psychiatry training in France from renowned physicians like Jean-Athanase Sicard, Joseph Babinski, Pierre Marie & Joseph Jules Dejerine.

This is an attempt to describe in detail the thoughts and opinions, rather random ramblings of a group of us, who are empathetic and sensitive to human suffering, pain and illnesses, like many other physicians in this world. The basic undeniable truth is that mankind faces diseases and disabilities from the time of birth until death. The entire life span of every human being is troubled with potential problems, be it deformities or birth defects due to reasons varying from genetics to accidents to misuse/ abuse of nature, body, diseases and the medicines used to treat them.

The following are the uniform requirements for manuscripts submitted to the Chettinad Health City Medical Journal, which are in accordance with “Uniform requirements for Manuscripts submitted to Biomedical Journal” developed by International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (October 2001).

Motherhood is one of the highly cherished desires of most women. Though this is generally instinctive, it is also socio culturally determined. There is huge peer pressure on women to achieve motherhood, sometimes, almost at any cost. There is often pressure on her marriage, marital life and womanhood.

A doctor according to Ryle’s description is one, who given the advantages of higher education, is nevertheless expected to combine in his person, the attributes of a scientist, healer, priest and prophet. “In posterity’s harsh judgment, doctors will continue to be foundwanting on some attributes as “there is probably no servant of the community of whom a greater degree of omniscience is demanded, or upon whom a graver responsibility in respect of personal and sometimes social guidance is imposed.
